The error report is shared via a web-interface, so at the design meeting, the manager can assign errors to relevant consultants, prioritise errors, agree deadlines and milestones etc. – Totally without having any BIM competencies.
The number of errors and their progress becomes transparent, while documentation is compiled for the errors that have been fixed, as well as who has fixed what and when. At the same time, you can comment on the errors, as well as insert photos/illustrations of the errors on an ongoing basis.
With the help of plugins called BCF Managers for the most widespread BIM programs, you can synchronise error reports directly to your BIM project. You get a list of errors in e.g. Revit or ARCHICAD and if you double-click an error, the program automatically zooms in on the selected object. Once the error is fixed, you can comment on and close the error, which then only needs to be approved by the design manager.
Because the errors are in this way synchronised between the users on the project, BIMcollab often acts as a communications platform between the consultants when they discover errors in each other’s technical models. This means that many errors are fixed before quality assurance and before the design meeting.
BIMcollab can import and export error reports in BCF-format, which is the open file format for error reports. But plugins are often utilised for your BIM program instead, so that you can synchronise rather than import, export and send BCF files.
